Why are teeth missing from the chainring?

It's a common misconception that the teeth design is a skip-tooth system, however this is not the case. On a conventional roller chain, the rollers engage the tooth on a single side and transition to the next tooth by rolling across an oversized gulley, under high tension, to the next tooth as you pedal. This rolling motion creates friction.

With the Enduo™ Track system, two chain rollers ‘lock’ onto the tooth from both sides, creating a ‘dual engagement’ – minimising frictional losses even at high tension as the chain rotates around the chainring.

For better or worse, it's built for competition.

As claimed, the Enduo system offers high efficiency; however, I stopped using it due to increased chain noise and intermittent vibrations.
It might be easier to visualize the sensation not as turning a 14-tooth sprocket, but rather as rotating a heptagon.
While the Enduo system is indeed highly efficient, it likely has a much narrower tolerance for deviations compared to conventional gears.
This means that even slight chain elongation or gear tooth wear could lead to a significant drop in efficiency, making it entirely unsuitable for everyday use.

I have a IZUMI Kai Super Tough Chain - 1/2x1/8. Will this sprocket or the narrow be the most compatible? (I will not be changing to a dura-ace chain at this stage)

If both sprockets are compatible with my chain, what is better and why?

Also, is it ok to run this sprocket with a regular system chainring? Guessing it is……

You will want the standard 1/8" width chainring and sprocket to match with your Izumi Kai 1/8" chain.
The Narrow version of the chainring and sprocket are for 11/128" (road 11 speed) chains.

Chainrings and sprockets can be mixed and matched with other brands or designs of chainrings and sprockets. They work indiopendently. Just ensure the tooth profile is the same size as your chain. i.e you can't run a 1/8" sprocket on a 11/128" chain.
