Keith Haring Cinelli Laser
The Cinelli Laser has got to be the most iconic bicycle in the world. None more as iconic as Keith Haring’s laser from 1987. Haring’s laser is most recognisable for its very 80’s figures painted on both sides of the carbon fibre wheels true to his design style and its obscene riding position.
The geometry of the bike is built for speed. As a track specific pursuit bike, the rider must be as aerodynamic as possible as achieve a good time over the distance. Bicycles like this would compete in time trial events ranging from as little as a 1km up to an hour record attempt.
I’ve spent the last few months researching as much as I could about the bicycle. I had collected photos from various blog posts, instagram feeds and measurements from other lasers for reference and comparison. Each photograph is a piece to a detailed puzzle, which has enabled me to recreate the bikes geometry using references from the columbus tube sizes and key component dimensions to base the geometry off.
